IOM Chief of Mission in Vietnam Park Mihyung.made the remark while addressing a consultation held on April 19 to discuss the cooperation programme on labour migration for 2024 - 2028.The event was held by the Overseas Labour Department under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the IOM. It was also attended by officials of the departments of labour, invalids and social affairs of nine localities with large numbers of people working overseas.
Park highlighted the IOM’s collaboration with Vietnam and other related parties like non-governmental and social organisations to promote safe and orderly labour migration based on the Sustainable Development Goals in the country.
The IOM highly values the Vietnamese Government’s important commitments to protecting migrant workers’ rights and creating a favourable environment for facilitating safe labour migration to benefit people, the community, and local socio-economic development, Park added.
Dang Si Dung, Deputy Director of the Overseas Labour Department, applauded the IOM’s cooperation programmes and activities in Vietnam, including technical and financial assistance for building and disseminating laws, improving cadres’ capacity and people’s awareness of safe labour migration, and protecting migrant workers abroad.
He particularly appreciated the IOM’s support for making and popularising the law on Vietnamese guest workers, and publishing two health handbooks for those working in Japan and the Republic of Korea.
The official expressed his hope for continued partnership with the IOM to raise migrant workers’ awareness and help them make migration decisions with sufficient information and via safe channels.
At the consultation, participants also considered cooperation priorities and targets in labour migration./.VNA
