VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese now would rather upgrade their smart phones with iOS 7.1 instead of maintaining the jailbreak iOS 7.0.

Quang Tung, the owner of an iPhone 5 in Hanoi, has decided to update iOS 7.1, even though he was warned that there would not be any jailbreak version for the management system version.

“I once used iPhone 4 jailbreak and installed a lot of tweaks on Cydia to be able to experience new features. Later, when I bought iPhone 5 and used iOS 7, I also made jailbreak, but used only one tweak – activator,” he said.

“However, I have just decided to give up jailbreak, because I think it is not really necessary,” he said.

“If you don’t have high demands for experiencing many things, you don’t need jailbreak,” he explained.

Tung is not alone. Many other young people, who once used iPhone jailbreak, have also made the same decision, saying that they would rather update the latest iOS versions than continue using jailbreak version.

iPhone jailbreak is a technical measure which allows to intervene the phone’s system, break the default barriers created by the manufacturer, thus helping users to have more right for full access and device management. Especially, the jailbreak allows users to install apps from outside.

Ho Anh Vu, the administrator of a forum about iPhones, has confirmed that Vietnamese are getting indifferent to jailbreak versions. He has noted the decreases in the number of the entries about iOS jailbreak and the number of the readers of the topic.

According to Vu, there are two reasons behind this. First, the jailbreak tweaks do not support much to iOS 7 platform. A lot of the apps favored by the previous-generation iPhone users cannot run on iOS 7-run iPhones. Some users said they installed the apps, but there are errors.

Second, iOS 7-run iPhone users now still can install apps from third parties with some simple operations, while jailbreak is not necessary. In the past, using the jailbreak version was the only solution allowing users to install apps from other stores.

Also according to Vu, only the users of locked iPhones are still interested in jailbreak versions. However, in recent years, Vietnamese tend not to buy the locked iPhone models, especially when the iPhone prices decrease rapidly, while iPhone international versions can be available in Vietnam soon.

“While jailbreak is very necessary for locked iPhones to help fix errors, it is not necessary for iPhone international versions,” Vu said.

Ngo Bao Huy, an iPhone user in HCM City, noted that the easier payment method is a reason that has prompted users to use the apps on App Store. There are a lot of shops which sell gift cards allowing to buy apps in packages.

“It is better to install licensed software pieces than unlicensed ones, if the licensed versions are not too expensive,” Huy commented.

There are some smart phone shops that provide lifetime software to phone buyers. This means that the buyers can install any app free of charge if they buy phones from the shops. However, using the shops’ accounts, users would not be able to update the latest versions of the apps themselves, but they need to have to the shops to have the versions updated.
