VietNamNet Bridge – The reality show Iron Chef on Wednesday marked its return for the second season with the announcement of a battle between Vietnamese and Thai Iron Chefs in District 1.

Iron Chef which is organized by TVPlus and VTV will be aired at 11 a.m. every Sunday on VTV3.
This year the show has the participation of chefs Nguyen Van Tu (chairman of Hanoi’s Chef Association) and Le Xuan Tam (sous chef of the Caravelle Hotel) and three Iron Chefs Sakal Phoeung (executive chef of the Sofitel Plaza Saigon), Iron Chef Alain Nghia (the newly-crowned Iron Chef Vietnam 2013) and Iron Chef Michael Bao Huynh who has around 20 restaurants in the U.S.
The competition for professional chefs on TV originated from Japan in 1992 and sees professional chefs nationwide compete with Iron Chefs from the program.
In each challenge, a chef will choose a specific Iron Chef to compete against to make five dishes from only one ingredient given by the judges within an hour.
The winner will receive the Iron Chef Vietnam trophy and a cash prize of VND20 million and the opportunity to compete with other Iron Chefs in Asia and around the world.
For the first time in Iron Chef Vietnam, audiences can experience top artistic cooking performances, and visually enjoy delicious food of Iron Chefs from Vietnam and Thailand. There are two Vietnamese Iron Chefs David Thai and Nghia and Thai chefs Noom and Thom from Iron Chef Thailand TV program taking part.
Vietnamese-French Thai is known for his Western cuisine and one-of-a-kind fusion between France and Vietnam. In a cooking battle in Thailand last month, Thai wiped the floor with his spectacular cooking performance and convinced Thai audiences to see him named the “Kitchen Stadium Wizard.”
Nghia who was named the Iron Chef earlier this year is an Asian cuisine master. His dishes always feature great taste and presentation.
Each team has to finish cooking four different dishes in 60 minutes and a dessert in 30 minutes.
There are two secret ingredients for each battle. The judges are Chef Khai Duong, who has his hands printed on the Honor Boulevard of Cordon Bleu and is founder of the Asian Chefs Association and co-founder of Chefs without Borders, food entrepreneur Ly Quy Trung, Bertrand Courtois, general manager of the Sofitel Saigon Plaza, John Gardner, general manager of the Caravelle Hotel, Craig Smith, general manager of the Movenpick Hotel Saigon and Saju Rajappan, executive chef of the New World Hotel Saigon.
