Google offers guides for developers
Viet Nam has become the first international market to be offered guides for developers by Internet giant Google.
The online resources are available on the Vietnamese version of the Google Developers Startup Launch at https://developers.google.com/startups/vn/
As mentioned on the website, Google aims to help Vietnamese start-ups to gain success based on Google's code and applications as well as other open source software.
The page includes writings and tools that will help developers to create applications on the Android operating system.
Sophie Tran, Viet Nam marketing director of Google in the Asia-Pacific region, said that Google sees great potential in developers in Viet Nam, and is very interested in the ideas and efforts of developers to make the Internet ecosystem more approachable and connected.
Amigo Tech expands into IT
Amigo Technologies (Amigo-Tech) has expanded its business into IT solutions for personal financial and software services.
The move aims to provide clients more added value and enhance their competitiveness in the information and technology market.
To mark the company's 10th anniversary early this week, Amigo-Tech also unveiled a brand revamp, changing from Amigo Technologies to Amigo, confirming its position as a leading IT solution providers in financial services.
Acumatica plans VN expansion
Acumatica, a US–based provider of cloud-based accounting software, has announced its expansion plans in Viet Nam.
"My company is entering the hottest economies in ASEAN to grow its ecosystem of partners and customers," said Laurent Dedenis, Acumatica's president of international operations based in Singapore.
The company recently announced US$13.3 million in new funding, with the last round bringing total funding in excess of $30 million. It has also announced its 1,000th customer.
Digiworld to be Ricoh distributor
Japanese printing provider Ricoh signed a contract to recognise Digiworld Corporation as its printing distribution partner yesterday.
Ricoh is known as one of the leading providers of photocopiers and printers, with a market share of around 22 per cent in Viet Nam.
Digiworld was ranked among the top 500 Vietnamese largest enterprises from 2007-14. This year, the company expects to reach a turnover of VND5 trillion (US$250 million), with 1,200 agents across Viet Nam.
Free Wi-Fi hotspots unsafe
Free Wi-Fi hotspots in Vietnamese cities and towns are unsafe for users, said Bkav Security, a member company of Bkav Corporation.
The firm carried out a study from August to November at five places that offer free public Wi-Fi: Hoi An, Ha Long, Da Nang, Hai Phong and Tam Dao.
Researchers accessed the free Wi-Fi and did attack tests. They found that users could be easily attacked in three ways, which are the man-in-the-middle (MitM) attack, phishing and SSID spoofing.
According to Bkav, MitM attacks and phishing are the most popular forms of attacks, posing the highest risks to users. MitM attacks use address resolution protocol mechanisms to eavesdrop on users.
FPT inks deal with Myanmar firm
FPT Software has signed a contract to develop a distribution management system (eMobiz DMS Solid) for International Beverages Trading Company Limited (IBTC) of Myanmar.
eMobiz DMS Solid will be applied across IBTC's entire network of distribution and management.
Developed by FPT Software, eMobiz DMS Solid plays an important role in the automation of the sales process, controlling distribution, maintaining inventories, saving time and improving market entry speed. It also supports the management of the sales teams to increase productivity and optimize utilisation of human resources.
Vietnamese firms attend Lao Techmart
A number of Vietnamese enterprises operating in the technological domain are showcasing their products at the LAO TECHMART-2014, which opened on Thursday in Vientiane.
The fair is held by the Lao Ministries of Science and Technology, Industry and Trade, in collaboration with a number of domestic and foreign businesses.
More than 100 booths of Lao enterprises introduced latest domestic technology solutions and hi-tech products in the sectors of aviation, banking, telecommunications, and agriculture.
Food tech products displayed in City
More than 100 up-to-date equipment and products in the food industry are being on show at a two-day mart that kicked off in HCM City on Thursday.
Techmart 2014, held by the city's Centre for Science and Technology Information, is meant to introduce and transfer scientific and technological achievements in nutritional and functional food so as to help southern businesses update their production lines and raise products' values.
Some outstanding exhibits include technologies producing crocodile bone glue, cordyceps roberti, and herbal tea, as well as machines using nano technology to make pills and ointment.
FPT Information System Company wins APICTA awards
FPT Information System Company (FPT IS) has won an Asia Pacific Information Communication Technology Alliances (APICTA) award, second prize.
FPT IS is the sole Vietnamese business winning this year’s regional ICT awards for its personnel and wage management software FPT.iHRP, after defeating many rivals including those from Taiwan and Singapore.
FPT.iHRP is now used by around 100 companies and economic groups in Vietnam like Sacombank, VietCapital Bank, Prudential, Home Credit, Masan Consumer, Ajinomoto, Vedan, Duy Tan Plastic and others.
FPT IS General Director Pham Minh Tuan said the award will help FPT IS promote its ICT products to international market.
APICTA Awards is annual prize for Asia-Pacific countries. This year’s competition attracted 180 entry products from regional countries.
