Yahoo launches digital news-stand for browsers
Yahoo this week launched its Livestand, a digital news-stand that continually offers new content to browsers based on their interests.
Launching first for tablets, Livestand would enable publishers and advertisers to seamlessly distribute content across tablets and mobile phones, said Yahoo officials.
The launch was made during its annual Asia-Pacific Client Summit in Ha Noi.
Yahoo recently signed a partnership with Q-Mobile, a domestic manufacturer of mobile handsets in Viet Nam.
Contract signed for Da Nang IT transaction centre
A contract to design, install and operate a Da Nang IT Telecommunications Transaction Centre was signed by Tinh Van Technologies JSC and Sun Ivy Joint Venture Co on Tuesday.
The contract, worth VND25 billion (US$1.1 million), is scheduled to be carried out over five months.
The IT transaction centre project is under Da Nang's IT-Telecommunications development project framework.
PM approves investment project for VOV Traffic Channel
The Prime Minister has recently approved investment for the Voice of Viet Nam (VOV) Traffic Channel, the first radio channel in Viet Nam to broadcast live 24 hours a day.
In addition, projects to build new offices in HCM City and a VOV tower, plus relocate the broadcasting antenna plant in Me Tri Commune, have been approved.
The Voice of Viet Nam is also allowed to select investors on build-and-transfer contracts to implement the projects.
HCM City plans underground telecoms cable project
Military-run Telecom Corporation (Viettel) has submitted its investment project to run telecommunications cables underground in HCM City's 29 routes.
The plan has been put to the city's Department of Information and Communications.
Viettel pledges to set up an underground telecommunications cable system in Districts 3, 5, 6, 12, Tan Binh and Binh Tan.
This system will be applied to cables of Viettel and other telecommunications businesses in 2011-15.
Viet Nam to launch first remote-sensing satellite
Viet Nam will launch its first remote sensing satellite in 2014, according to the Space Technology Institute of the Viet Nam Academy of Science and Technology.
Head of the Space Technology Institute Doan Minh Chung said the satellite, called VNREDSat-1, would be designed and assembled using French technology in 2013.
The 130kg satellite will be capable of capturing earth images from almost 700km in space, to monitor and study the effects of climate change, monitor natural disasters and manage natural resources and the environment.
The VNREDSat-1 project has a total investment of 55.8 million euro (US$38 million) sourced from the French Government's official development assistance.
It will include the lease of a satellite launching pad and advisors.
Vietnamese students win chip-design contest in Japan
Two teams from the HCM City National University won first and second prizes at the 14th Large Scale Integrated (LSI) Design Contest held in Okinawa, Japan, from January to March.
The first prize went to Fetel07 team, consisting of Nguyen Phu Khanh and Tang Phuong Dung.
Second prize went to Kitten team with Nguyen Pham Hoang Dung and Huynh Quang Trung.
The third prize belonged to the Three Sun team from Japan.
BKAV warns about computer virus plague, hacking
About 5.8 million computers in Viet Nam were infected with viruses in March and at least 3,400 new viruses were found, according to Bach Khoa Anti-virus Centre (BKAV).
A number of 137 State organisations and enterprises were hacked.
Some new viruses stopped internet access even after they were scanned.
The centre urged companies and individuals to use copyrighted anti-virus programmes.
Misa provides free invoice software for enterprises
The Misa joint-stock company has announced that it would provide free software to help enterprises print invoices following the Ministry of Finance decree that went into effect on April 1.
The Misa's SME.NET 2010 form was examined by the Taxation General Department.
The software will be used free for six months, from April to the end of September.
