Ha Noi to authenticate digital signatures
The Ha Noi telecommunications sector will be providing a digital signature authentication service to city companies, organisations and individuals as of June 15.
The VNPT-CA service will include digital signatures, certificate authentication and public digital signatures.
According to the VNPT website (http://www.vnpt.com.vn), digital signatures rely on public key encryption (RSA) requiring users to have both public and private keys. Private keys will be used in order to generate digital signatures while public keys will be used to verify digital signature authentication when creating digital signatures.
Vietnamobile's network now covers tunnel
Having planned to cover every corner of the country, Vietnamobile has successfully set up network coverage for the Hai Van pass tunnel.
Its success has made Vietnamobile the fourth network operator in Viet Nam, following Vinaphone, MobiFone and Viettel, to extend its network reach to the Hai Van tunnel.
From inside the tunnel, Vietnamobile subscribers, especially wireless customers in the Central region of the country, will be able to stay connected.
After two years in operation, Vietnamobile's network covers most provinces in the country, especially areas with bad reception.
Foreign pay TV needs licensing in VN
Foreign content on Vietnamese pay TV must be edited and translated into Vietnamese by licensed agencies.
The recently approved regulation, based on pay TV management, was discussed at a seminar hosted by the Broadcasting, Television and Electronic Information Management Department under the Ministry of Information and Communications on June 8.
TV content must be suitable to viewers needs and not violate Vietnamese law or regulations while translation of content will be made compulsory for foreign TV channels wanting to broadcast in Viet Nam.
Advertising, if any, must be carried out in Viet Nam and follow the country's regulations on advertising.
Providers of pay TV content must be held responsible for advertisement content on channels under their charge.
IBM sets up centre of excellence
The HCM City University of Natural Sciences (UNS) and IBM Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday based on establishing a new technological centre in HCM City.
The "Centre of Excellence" (CoE IBM-UNS), the first centre of its kind in HCM City, is expected to help improve the quality of technical education as well as increase the employability of students.
Deputy Rector of the UNS Duong Anh Duc said his centre was committed to implement training and research activities, providing high quality human resources and actively contributing to the country's development.
Nokia Siemens introduce new broadband
Nokia Siemens Networks on Thursday introduced a new generation of high-speed, low-cost broadband technology, labelled Long Term Evolution (LTE).
Although LTE has already been widely used throughout the whole world, its implementation and application will still take some time in Viet Nam.
The company has suggested that its new technology be deployed in small regions.

CMC wins contracts worth $9.7m
CMC Corporation, one of the leading Vietnamese information communications technology companies, has reported winning contracts worth more than VND200 billion (US$9.7 million) in total during May.
With these contracts, CMC plans to provide and install information technology equipment throughout State-owned units including the Viet Nam General Department of Customs, the General Tax Department and the data centre of the Ministry of Finance.
FPT, Alcatel supply equipment to Beeline
The FPT Information System (FPT IS), in co-operation with Alcatel Lucent, recently signed a contract aimed at supplying and installing 416 base transceiver stations (BTS) and 616 vibration equipment at GTel Mobile's Beeline.
This is the first time that the FPT IS has supplied BTS to a domestic network supplier.
The FPT IS has not released the exact value its contract, but confirmed that it came to tens of millions of dollars.
