Ninh Binh runs trial test of wifi service

The northern province of Ninh Binh started running a trial test of wireless internet (WiFi) access at five locations last week.

The trial test is part of a plan co-developed by the Ninh Binh Telecoms Company and VNPT Technology to turn Ninh Binh into a WiFi city.

According to the plan, the wireless Internet service will continue to be developed at five other locations.

After three months of testing free WiFi service, Ninh Binh Telecoms will collect fees through services like SMS, pre-paid cards and bills or credit cards.

Student wins UniSim context

Vietnamese student, Dinh Quang Tuyen, won first prize in the 2012 UniSim Design Competition Student Challenge in the Asia-Pacific region, held in Australia.

Tuyen, a student from Ha Noi University of Technology's Chemical Engineering Faculty, had used the product design of Honeywell UniSim Design Suite to simulate the performance cycle of the most important transformation in oil refineries, Fluidized Catalytic Cracking (FCC).

The accuracy of the simulation model was tested through the use of crude oil at the Dung Quat refinery in Viet Nam. The "UniSim Design Challenge" contest is annually organised by Honeywell for university students to encourage those who are studying engineering.

Expo to help connect IT companies

The International Exhibition and Conference Viet Nam Mobile 2012 will be held by the Ministry of Information and Communications in Ha Noi from August 18-21. It will feature a diverse range of opportunities for high-tech communications providers.

It is a chance for firms not only to publicise their brands, introduce new products, expand their markets and raise consumer awareness, but also to strengthen ties with customers, partners and investors.

Viet Nam Mobile 2012 is also an opportunity for many government officials and telecommunications professionals to discuss policies about how to develop Viet Nam 's mobile phone industry.

The exhibition is expected to attract about 50,000 visitors and will feature over 100 domestic and overseas companies.

Da Nang to build IC centre

The central city's Information and Communications Department and the US's Cadence Design System company will build a centre for Integrated Circuit (IC) design in the near future.

At a meeting with the city's people's committee yesterday, representative of Cadence company Ellen Tam said the company would debut the project following the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Information and Communications Department in February.

The centre, which is expected to be located at the city's Software Park, aims to develop Hi-tech human resources and design IC software for both the domestic and the regional Southeast Asian market.

The city has developed Quang Trung software and Da Nang software parks as centralised centres, and they have attracted 140 information technology companies. Da Nang is the biggest city after Ha Noi and HCM City to develop centralised information centres.

 Firm wins bid on Da Nang project

The Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) – Hyundai Information Technology joint-venture won the right to develop and deploy an Information technology applications project for the central Da Nang city yesterday. As scheduled, the joint-venture will help to construct a database system and software for 12 online public transactions in the city. The US$4.3 million project, funded by the World Bank, will be completed in nine months.
