Italy’s U21 women’s volleyball team clinched the 2025 World Championship title following a dramatic 3-2 victory over Japan in a thrilling final. The match saw set scores of 25-22, 22-25, 15-25, 25-19, and 15-11.
Italy began the match strongly, using difficult serves and effective blocking along the sidelines to pressure Japan and secure the first set 25-22.
However, Japan quickly responded with tenacious floor defense, swift transitions, and fast-paced attacks from the No. 3 position, leveling the match 1-1 with a 25-22 win in set two. They then dominated set three 25-15 to take a 2-1 lead.
Unwilling to surrender, Italy's coach adjusted the attack rhythm by introducing more back-row plays and overlapping outside hits. Their wing spikers regained form, while the opposite hitter maintained consistent scoring.
In set four, Italy executed a series of tactical serves that disrupted Japan’s first touches and set up their counterattacks. This led to a 25-19 win, pushing the match into a decisive fifth set.
The final set was filled with intensity as both teams traded points. Italy displayed superior composure in extended rallies, with impressive blocking reads and libero saves helping them take control after the 10-point mark.
A powerful cross-court spike sealed the 15-11 victory, completing Italy’s emotional comeback to win the 2025 U21 World Championship. The triumph underscores Italy’s depth and competitive spirit, while Japan earned praise for their disciplined, fast-paced, and high-energy play.
