During the food hygiene and safety inspection campaign on February 3 in Can Tho, inspectors discovered a batch of smuggled food originating from China at a confectionary company on Dinh Cong Trang Street, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho.

On February 5, at the police headquarters of Ninh Kieu district, inspectors checked the smuggled products. They found two boxes of apple jam, one in blue and one in vivid yellow.

Checking the product, inspectors found hard plastic pips in dark blue and yellow inside the apples. By naked eye one can easily detect that the pips inside are made of plastic. The product label is in Chinese characters.

According to the authorities, it is highly possible that this batch of fruit jam is made from plastic.

The Can Tho Market Management Department has sent samples to a lab for testing to verify whether it is made from plastic or not.
