The Japanese Government donates one million AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines to Vietnam on June 16.

Previously Japan offered nearly one million AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines to Vietnam and the consignment arrived in Hanoi on June 16.

As many as 836,000 doses from the initial donation have been delivered to Ho Chi Minh City for its large-scale vaccination campaign which began on June 19 as part of its attempt to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Japan has pledged to support Vietnam in accessing COVID-19 vaccines amid a limited supply globally. During a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on June 15, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yamada Takio informed the PM of the Japanese Government’s decision to donate one million COVID-19 vaccine doses to Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Japanese businesses operating in Vietnam have also given plenty of support to the country in its ongoing COVID-19 fight. Earlier this week the Japan-based AEON Group announced it would contribute VND25 billion (approximately US$1.08 million) to Vietnam’s COVID-19 vaccine fund, thereby uniting with the Vietnamese Government to eradicate the pandemic.

The Japanese Business Association of Ho Chi Minh City (JCCH) donated US$20,000 to the country’s COVID-19 vaccine fund.

Together with the JCCH, the Japan Business Association in Vietnam and the Japanese Business Association in Da Nang have also donated to the fund.

Batch of COVID-19 vaccine donated by Japan arrives in Vietnam

Nearly one million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Japanese Government arrived at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi on late June 16.
