Japan is looking to further cooperation with Vietnam in the agriculture and fishery industries, said Japanese Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Nishikawa Koya at a meeting with President Truong Tan Sang in Hanoi on January 21.

He said Japan will support Vietnam’s aquatic fishing infrastructure and wants to partner with Vietnam in irrigation development and bird flu prevention.

The minister said Japanese businesses hope Vietnam will further simplify investment procedures to facilitate operation in the country.

President Truong Tan Sang said Vietnam and Japan have been effectively implementing agreements signed between the two countries, not only at the governmental level but also at the local level.

He thanked Japan for its technical assistance in fishing and processing ocean tuna that has since generated high efficiency products from fishermen in central Binh Dinh province.

The State leader expressed his hope that Japan will continue providing technological support for fishermen in other cities and provinces to capitalise on the fishing potential of Vietnam .

He suggested the two sides expand cooperation in aquaculture to improve the quality and productivity of Vietnamese products.

The President spoke highly of Japanese water-saving irrigation technology and said Vietnam also hopes to cooperate with Japan in irrigation.

With the diligence and creativity of the Vietnamese people, along with the technical assistance of Japan , Vietnam expects to see new breakthroughs in agriculture and other fields, he said.
