Vietnam Airlines stewardess arrested in Japan

On Tuesday, the Japanese media reported that the Japanese police had released Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, the 25-year-old hostess of Vietnam Airlines, who was suspected of transporting stolen goods from Japan to Vietnam. Tokyo police said their office in Tachikawa did not have enough evidence to charge the stewardess.

A representative of Vietnam Airlines on Wednesday said that the firm had received notification from the Japanese police, and that the stewardess, Bich Ngoc, was still in Japan.

A few days earlier, the Japanese media had reported that the police suspected the stewardess of collecting transport fees ranging from 250 to 300 yen per item, and had earned 3 million yen ($30,000) within nine months.

Ngoc was arrested by Japanese police on March 26 on allegations of transporting stolen goods from Japan to Vietnam. The suspected stolen goods are worth 125,000 yen ($1,300).

Japanese police told the local media that the Vietnam Airlines hostesses may have transported stolen goods last September, at the request of a Vietnamese national living in Japan.

The 25-year-old flight attendant denied the allegations, insisting that she did not know that the goods were stolen.
