Earlier this year, Prime Minister Takaichi drew attention when she played drums alongside South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, performing popular songs including Dynamite by BTS and Golden from the soundtrack of K-pop Demon Hunters.

In her youth, she was known for her strong personality and deep passion for rock music, even performing as an energetic drummer in a heavy metal band. According to accounts, she often carried multiple drumsticks, frequently breaking them during performances.

At the age of 65, her enthusiasm for drumming remains unchanged. Japanese media have reported that she still carries several pairs of drumsticks with her, even while engaged in political duties, using them to relieve stress when needed.

Japanese media on May 2 extensively covered her visit to Vietnam, highlighting key activities and engagements.

According to Nikkei, during a meeting with Prime Minister Takaichi, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam recalled his previous visits to Japan before assuming his current role and described former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo and other Japanese leaders as “great friends of Vietnam.”

Prime Minister Takaichi reaffirmed that Japan will continue to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam and work together toward building a “stronger and more prosperous” region.

Nikkei also noted that To Lam continues to emphasize diplomacy and international cooperation amid an increasingly complex global landscape.

Meanwhile, Asahi highlighted economic security cooperation during talks between Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Prime Minister Takaichi. According to the report, both sides announced a joint document to enhance cooperation in securing energy supply chains and strategic minerals, aiming to diversify sources amid geopolitical competition.
