On August 6, Vietnam IT Day 2024 opened in Tokyo, Japan. Vinasa chair Nguyen Van Khoa said digital technology cooperation between Vietnamese and Japanese tech firms has been developing rapidly, improving the competitiveness of enterprises in most key business fields of the two countries.

Vietnam remains the favorite choice and the second largest partner in digital transformation in Japan. It is estimated that hundreds of Vietnam’s digital firms have opened offices or set up legal entities in Japan, some of which use hundreds or thousands of workers in Japan.

To promote high-quality manpower in the IT (information technology) field, the Post and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) under the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has signed cooperation agreements with three Japanese enterprises and training establishments.

PTIT and Aizu University will cooperate to run a 3+2 training joint program, under which PTIT students after three years of studying in Vietnam can transfer credits to study at Aizu University for two more years to obtain a master’s degree.

PTIT and Japanese Agest signed a cooperation agreement under which the Japanese enterprise would support training and internship activities in the Japanese environment to PTIT’s Robotics and AI students.

PTIT and GAG, a Japanese training academy, will cooperate in training Japanese language and culture. The academy will also provide training under the form of digital university to the Vietnamese community in Japan.

Vietnam IT Day 2024 continues to help expand the network of businesses joining cooperation programs, helping advertise Vietnam’s IT firms in the Japanese market and creating favorable conditions for IT in agencies, organizations and businesses.

The participants at the event spoke about major cooperation trends between the two parties in 5-10 years, including system digital transformation and AI, and digital transformation in production and green transition.

They noted the trend in cooperation between the two countries in most business fields. In IT, Japanese firms assign Vietnamese partners to undertake nearly all jobs of the production chain, including research, design, production and testing.

JETRO’s (Japan External Trade Organization) Noriya Tarutani said there are Japanese investments in Vietnam every year in the field of IT. There were 59 investment items by 2023, or 20 percent of Japan’s total investment in Vietnam.
