VietNamNet Bridge – The national women’s volleyball team will have Japanese head coach Hidehiro Irisawa, who is expected to push Viet Nam to a higher level.

His first task is to help the squad prepare for the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia later this year.

Irisawa will earn US$6,000 per month and will also be involved with coaching the U19 and U23 squads.

He worked with the national team last June and came back last month to watch the national championship in Ha Tinh Province.

In his career, the 63-year-old worked as a trainer for youth teams and as head coach of several clubs including Fuji Film that took part in the Japan National League from 1982-1993.

Irisawa coached athletes at high schools and universities from 1994-2009.

He took charge of the Kenyan women’s team in 2009 and helped them to win berths at the World Championship in the same year and the World Cup one year later.

Before arriving in Viet Nam, Irisawa coached the men’s team of Nihon University.
