VietNamNet Bridge – A young leopard has been rescued and moved to the Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Centre in Cuc Phuong National Park in the northern province of Ninh Binh.
On May 10, Bac Quang District Forestry Protection Department in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang, received information that the leopard was being illegally held in the district.
Local rangers rescued the animal but no arrests were made.
"The leopard, along with all of Viet Nam's wild cat species, is listed in group IB of the Government's Decree 32 prohibiting exploitation and use for commercial purposes," said Bui Van Dong, head of the Bac Quang Forestry Protection Department.
The animal is now in quarantine and undergoing rehabilitation, after which it, and five other leopards at the centre, will be released into the wild.
Meanwhile, Ha Noi police on Monday detained a lorry in Thanh Tri District transporting numerous wild animals in Thanh Tri District.
Police seized hundreds of live tortoises, varans (a type of lizard) and pythons.
