Organised by Noirfoto, the exhibition promises to provide an exhilarating visual journey filled with intense emotions while highlighting the role and expertise of a professional exhibition organiser.
At the exhibition, photographer Nguyễn Thành Dũng presents around 20 abstract street photographs that draw inspiration from the enchanting kaleidoscope, reflecting slices of urban life with a myriad of vibrant colours. This unique collection offers a fresh and innovative perspective on everyday life.
Ascending beyond mere visual representation, "Kaleidoscopic Vision" aims to deliver a surrealistic visual escapade akin to a colossal kaleidoscope, continuously reconstructing, mirroring, and transforming the urban landscape into countless lively, colourful, and sparkling fragments.
The artworks invite viewers to embark on an odyssey into an alternate realm meticulously crafted by the artist, featuring visual effects that are both familiar and enigmatic. It's a realm where colours overlap harmoniously, spaces reflect intricately, and movements fleetingly transpire.
The compilation serves as a true portrayal of optical illusions, where familiar scenes are distorted into peculiar and extraordinary images, as if observed through the eyes of an extraterrestrial being or a bug encountering the modern urban world of glass, metal, plastic, and electric lights for the first time.
None of the subjects within the collection are distinctly clear or deliberately arranged; they reside in a realm of haziness and ambiguity.
Employing abstract visual language alongside poetic colour palettes and composition, the "Kaleidoscopic Vision" assortment injects a fresh and novel dimension into street photography.
These works encapsulate authentic street photography, capturing candid images within public domains without manipulation or preconception.
Nguyễn Thành Dũng commented about the process of creating this exhibition: “Living between two cities, Hà Nội and HCM City, I learned to appreciate the wondrous, colourful beauty of everyday life. When I discovered that colours convey immense emotional nuances in visual experiences, I completely let go of reason and allowed emotions and colours to blend together through the camera lens.”
Photography in Việt Nam has recently experienced an explosion, both in the number of photographers and its audience, largely due to improved living conditions and the prevalence of camera phones and social media.
However, as with everything else, quantity often precedes quality, and the creativity and artistic nature of the vast number of images produced still lag behind, with most being postcard-style “beautiful” images that are repetitive and boring in both theme and form.
“Kaleidoscopic Vision” by Photographer Nguyễn Thành Dũng, featuring 20 works, will be exhibited at Noirfoto’s new location at 131 Dương Văn An, An Phú Ward, Thủ Đức City, from August 18 to September 1.
