This year, SEA Games 27 (to take place in December in Laos) is the most important event of the sector. So, national championships in many games are expected to attract the best athletes for competition.
Besides sending teams to compete abroad, Vietnam will also organize 16 traditional international tournaments, in which there are five volleyball events (to be held from March to July in the provinces of Gia Lai, Quang Ninh, Dak Lak, Vung Tau and Hai Phong City), and two track and field international events in Ho Chi Minh City (July) and Hanoi (October).
Notably, the Vietnam Open Badminton Championship (time and venue not yet finalized) hopes to attract many outstanding domestic and international players, thus creating a good chance for Vietnamese athletes in general to gain more skills and experience, and top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh in particular to defend his champion title.
Besides, the Asia Body Building Championship (hosted by Ho Chi Minh City next August) will return to Vietnam after 15 years.
2013 is also the second year of the sports and physical sector implementing the Politburo’s Resolution on “Enhancing the leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam, creating strong development in the sports and physical sector by 2020”.
