VietNamNet Bridge – The Cam Ranh Hospital in Khanh Hoa Province carried out an inguinal hernia surgery for a child of 21 months of age. A few hours later, the baby’s belly was swollen up and he could not pass water. It turned out that doctors “mistakenly” cut off half of the baby’s bladder.
Dr. Nguyen Hong Quang, director of the Cam Ranh Hospital said the child was moved to Ho Chi Minh City Children's Hospital 2. The baby was said to lose half of his bladder in an inguinal hernia surgery. Dr. Quang said the patient has been out of danger.
The baby was brought to Cam Ranh Hospital on October 23. Doctors said he needed an inguinal hernia surgery. At noon of October 25, the child underwent the surgery. A few hours after that his belly was swollen up and he could not pee. The next day the child was moved to Khanh Hoa province.
Doctors of Khanh Hoa General Hospital said that the surgical team of Cam Ranh Hospital "mistakenly cut more than half of the child's bladder, causing severe damage to the bladder, making urine retention in the abdominal cavity, resulting in serious complications."
The hospital performed an emergency surgery to solve the critical situation. Then the baby was taken to the Children’s Hospital 2 in HCM City to continue treatment.
According to experts, reconstructive surgery of the bladder is very complex.
