Khanh Hoa's Provincial People's Committee has proposed the government to allow it to build an international entertainment centre, including a casino.
Provincial leaders said the proposal is based on recommendations from Hung Thinh Real Estate Investment JSC, which has worked consistently for the overall development plan of the province.
Under the proposal, the entertainment centre will span 31ha in Thuy Trieu pond rammer in the north of the Cam Ranh peninsula and connect the mainland via two bridges.
The project will include a five-star hotel with a casino on 37,000sq.m., villas and resorts on 110,000sq.m., and a marina of 18,000sq.m. The remaining land will accommodate trees and traffic facilities.
The centre is expected to boost local tourism and attract international tourists. It will focus on investments in high-class resorts on the bays of Nha Trang, Van Phong, and Cam Ranh, which can compete with the existing ones in the region.
The proposal noted that some important tourism spots in the Cam Ranh peninsula has been completed and has become operational while some others are nearing completion, along with the construction of runway No.2 at Cam Ranh International Airport. Therefore, it is only a matter of time before the plan to build an international tourism centre here will become a reality. It will not just be an entertainment spot but also a major destination for foreign and domestic investors.
According to data from the Ministry of Finance, there are so far seven enterprises that have the licence to run casinos in Viet Nam. Among them, the most remarkable projects are Ho Tram Strip (functional since July 2013) in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and Nam Hoi An (yet to take off), both have an estimated capital of US$4 billion and higher each.
