VietNamNet Bridge - The Khanh Hoa provincial authorities have shown their strong determination to develop Phuong Hoang beach (Phoenix) in Nha Trang City, ignoring protests from organizations.
The sea city of Nha Trang in the central province of Khanh Hoa has become a “hot spot” of the country as provincial authorities have agreed on the Indian Dewan Group’s project on developing construction works in the east of Tran Phu – Pham Van Dong, the major road which faces the seaside.
The group has got permission to implement two projects, including the Phoenix Garden 40-65-storey complex, covering an area of 50,000 square meters, and the 40-45-storey hotel & service complex, covering an area of 10,000 square meters.
The Khanh Hoa provincial Union of Science & Technology Association (USTA), former chair of Khanh Hoa People’s Committee, and Secretary General of the Khanh Hoa Tourism Association all have advised against the Phoenix beach development project.
According to USTA, the development programming of the eastern part of the Tran Phu – Pham Van Dong Road designed by Dewan has shortcomings.
The union pointed out that Dewan’s idea of building a harbor view is unscientific. It will be unreasonable to set up five ocean centers which also serve as places for tourism boats to moor, because boats will not be able to make landfall in windy season. Meanwhile, exhaust fume and noise will affect tourism development.
The scientists have also warned against a plan to build an underground parking lot under the 2/4 Square, because it will affect the landscapes in the locality. Meanwhile, the existence of houses in the air and cafes on treetops as Dewa designed will spoil coastal landscapes.
The idea of developing underground resorts in the eastern part of Tran Phu road is also unreasonable in scientists’ eyes, as tourists would not be interested.
Pham Van Chi, former chair of Khanh Hoa province, warned that the unplanned, haphazard construction in the seaside area will create concrete walls, blocking wind and hiding the view of the sea.
“Nha Trang beach is the common asset of all Khanh Hoa people. No one has the right to prevent them from enjoying the sea and fresh air,” Chi said, adding that these assets contribute to its tourism appeal.
Though the construction works have not been built, people complain they cannot go to the beach. Dewa has installed signs which say people are prohibited from entering the areas reserved for the Phoenix beach project.
