The seventh Khmer Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival will be held in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu from November 11-19, according to the organising board.
The event is expected to draw Khmer people from 12 southern localities, including Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City.
Themed “Southern Khmer community promote tradition and solidarity for national construction and defence,” the festival will include various cultural and art activities, including exhibitions of publications, traditional products and foods of Khmer people, along with trade fairs, sports and tourism promotion.
According to Chairman of the Bac Lieu People’s Committee Duong Thanh Trung, also head of the steering committee for the festival, the festival aims to strengthen solidarity and exchange of culture and art among Khmer people, thus preserving and promoting the cultural identities of the group.
There are about 1.3 million Khmer ethnic people in the south, accounting for 7 percent of the region’s population.
