Vietnamese chess prodigy Nguyen Anh Khoi jumped into the top 10 at the World Youth Chess Championship in South Africa by defeating Finnish rival Keinaken Toivo in the ninth match.

The Vietnamese mastermind put his opponent away in just 44 moves, winning the match 1-0.

After a total of nine matches, Khoi has earned five points and climbed to eighth position in the U12 category.

In the boys U8 category, Vo Pham Thien Phuc has garnered four points and also ranks in the top ten of the grouping.

The event taking place from September 20-29 includes the U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18 categories for boys and girls. They play in the format of the Swiss system with 11 rounds.

Eight Vietnamese junior chess players are participating in the tourney.
