Khoi leads U12 group in Asian chess championship
FIDE master Nguyen Anh Khoi is leading in the U12 category at the Asian Youth Chess Championship which is ongoing in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Khoi, the former world U10 champion, won all four rounds.
Yakubboev Nodirbek of the host country came second with 3.5 points, followed by Ram Aravind of India, with 3 points.
In the next round, Khoi will play Nodirbek, while Aravind meets Katenov Aibek of Kazakhstan.
Viet Nam have six other masters competing in the tournament but they have not reached the top three ranks.
The Asian championships have attracted competitors from 13 countries and territories. They are competing in four age groups each in the open and girls' events.
The final rounds are scheduled to be held on June 29.
Junior footballer set for Brazil
Six junior players from Thua Thien-Hue community Football For All in Vietnam (FFAV) project, will join the Football for Hope event in Brazil, between July 3 and 10.
A reliable source from the organizers said that the event in the Rio de Janeiro, which is in the official scheduled of the FIFA World Cup, will attract 3 delegations from all over the world.
The delegations represent community, social developing organizations and agencies using football as a development method.
Each team will include three female and three male players aged between 15 and 18.
The delegations will have a cultural exchange programme, find effective ways to practice and learn experiences of managing football teams for development from local community teams in Rio de Janeiro. The 32 participating teams will then play friendly matches with one another.
The FFAV was kicked off in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue in 2013 for children between 6 and 15 years of age. So far, as many as 158 clubs have been set up gathering more than 16,000 local children.
Can Tho to host teen tennis comp
The National Cadet and Teenagers Tennis Championships will begin on Saturday in Can Tho City.
Organisers will finalise the list of athletes to compete today, with the draw to be unveiled tomorrow.
Players will compete across 14 categories in age groups ranging from U10 to U18. Meanwhile, the finals are slated to take place on July 5.
Organised by the Viet Nam Tennis Federation, the event attracts the highest number of participants of any national event.
U19's hold Osaka to draw
Striker Nguyen Cong Phuong scored both goals, as Viet Nam U-19's held Gamba Osaka FC's U-18 to a 2-2 draw in Japan yesterday.
Both goals from the visitors came in the second half after Gamba Osaka scored their opener in the third minute of the match from a free kick.
The hosts levelled in the last minute of the second half of the friendly match which saw French coach Graechen Guillaume of Viet Nam use many of his substitute players. It was the fifth match for the team in Japan. The Vietnamese previously won one, drew one and lost two.
