VietNamNet Bridge – An exhibition featuring 50 photos and paintings on ‘We Love Son Tra and the red-shanked douc langur’, opened yesterday at Da Nang City’s Fine Arts Museum at 78 Le Duan Street to mark Children’s Day.

The exhibition displayed paintings of the red-shanked douc langur and the nature of Son Tra Nature Reserve that children drew during field trips to the reserve 10km from the city centre.
Meanwhile, the Centre of Biodiversity Conservation, GreenViet, exhibited photos on the ‘Life of the red-shanked douc langur in Son Tra Peninsula’ at the exhibition, aiming to raise awareness of the protection of the endangered langur in Son Tra among visitors.
Many photos of the primates, taken by French wildlife photographer Cyril Ruoso and Vietnamese Nguyen Truong Sinh, and posters were hung at bus stops, hotels, living quarters and the airport, as well as the railway station and on the main streets of Da Nang.
The 2,500ha Son Tra Nature Reserve, known for its rich biodiversity with 287 species of animals and 985 species of plants, is home to 1,300 red-shanked douc langurs, an animal only found in Laos and Viet Nam.
The city selected the red-shanked douc langur as Da Nang’s official mascot for the 2017 Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation Summit in Da Nang from November 5 to 11.
