The Central Highlands province of Kon Tum is blessed with terrain, climate, and soil factors that are favorable for the growth of tropical vegetation, especially rare medicinal herbs.
Kon Tum has more than 902,000 hectares of agricultural and forestry land, including nearly 300,000 hectares of land for agricultural production (accounting for nearly 31% of the total natural area of the province and 33.11% of the agricultural area); nearly 602,000 hectares of forestry land (accounting for 62.2% of the total natural area and 66.71% of agricultural land); over 1,241 hectares of aquaculture land and nearly 365 hectares of other types of agricultural land. The province’s forest coverage is over 63%.
In recent years, the government of Kon Tum province has issued many mechanisms and policies, actively implemented and promoted important activities in establishing intellectual property rights protection for its products. At the same time, it has provided guidance and support to local people and cooperatives to build brands, contributing to rural restructuring and promoting agricultural production development.
According to the province's agricultural development orientation in the coming time, it will focus on developing medicinal materials and high-tech agriculture, contributing to the rapid and sustainable development of Kon Tum province.
To achieve this goal, the transformation of crop structure and the use of high-yield and high-quality varieties has been implemented drastically and synchronously by Kon Tum province. In particular, the province has encouraged people to convert ineffective and low-yield crops to those with high economic value such as replacing rice, cassava and rubber by annual crops, fruit trees, macadamia trees.
In addition, the province determines to promote restructuring of the agricultural sector towards advanced, modern, green and environmentally friendly technology; to maintain a coffee area of about 25,000 hectares, with an output of 63,270 tons, including about 1,400 tons of processed products; a rubber area of about 70,000 hectares, with latex output of 105,000 tons; strive to increase the area of fruit trees to about 10,000 hectares; to plant an additional 15,000 hectares of forest by 2025, increasing the forest coverage rate to 64%; promote the development of concentrated livestock production using high technology.
The province is investing in medicinal herbs that are suitable for the local soil, climate and ecological conditions to develop the medicinal herb area of Kon Tum province into a national key medicinal herb hub and to become a major medicinal production center of the country by 2025, with about 4,500 hectares of Ngoc Linh Ginseng and about 10,000 hectares of other medicinal plants; diversify products and build the Ngoc Linh Kon Tum ginseng brand.
The province is also interested in the OCOP program, with many support policies that have helped businesses, cooperatives and farmers expand production, gradually standardize products, and contribute to building brands for local products.
To date, Kon Tum has had 184 OCOP products from 3 stars to 5 stars. Among them, many products have affirmed their reputation and brand such as Dakmark coffee products with 5-star national certification, and many 4-star OCOP products at the provincial level such as special coffee, premium milk coffee and durian coffee.
Kon Tum has successfully registered for two geographical indication certifications of "Ngoc Linh" for ginseng products and "Dak Ha" for Dak Ha coffee products and many other certifications for products such as Kon Tum cold coffee, Ngoc Linh Kon Tum ginseng, Kon Tum ginseng; Kon Tum Codonopsis pilosula, Kon Tum brocade weaving, Dak Ha fragrant rice and Kon Tum bird's nest...
