VietNamNet BridgeHCM City Police caught three Korean men in the act of illegally selecting their future wives on the roof of the Maximart supermarket in HCM City on December 1.

 

 

Thirteen girls participated in the "selection".

Police fined the three Korean men and a Vietnamese translator for participating in illegal marriage matching.

 

The 13 girls who participated in the “selection” range from age 18 to 27 and came from the Mekong Delta provinces.  They were sent home and made to promise to never join such “selections” in the future.

 

According to police, some customers at Maximart Cong Hoa supermarket in Tan Binh District reported to the local police station about their suspicions over the gathering of a group of young girls and several Korean men at the café on the roof of the supermarket.

 

Police suddenly broke up the café gathering at 10:30 am and caught 13 Vietnamese girls who were “performing” themselves for three Korean men who were seeking Vietnamese wives.

 

The “selection” publicly took place at the café  in front of many people.

 

Other people admitted to violating Vietnamese laws.

 

Korean men said that they would have to pay $3500 to a HCM City marriage match-maker for a girl they choose.

 

When the police arrived, the illegal match makers had already escaped.

 

The girls said that they had lived and “trained” in HCM City for a period of time to prepare for the selection.
