Mr. Huynh Duc Hoa, Party Secretary and Chairman of Lam Dong Province in a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Phuc early this week expressed the view of the provincial leaders and the aspirations of the Da Lat people on removing the Da Lat Nuclear Technology Center 25-30 km away from Da Lat City.

Hoa said that the location planned for the construction of the nuclear technology center is in Ward 12 of Da Lat City, on the road connecting Da Lat to Nha Trang and only 7 km from Da Lat center.

Previously, the Minister of Science and Technology and Academician Nguyen Van Hieu met with officials of Lam Dong province and confirmed that this center is perfectly safe. However, Lam Dong authorities are still afraid because "nothing is impossible."

"The development of the nuclear science and technology center in Da Lat set psychosocial problems more than safety issues," Hoa emphasized.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc recorded the proposal of Lam Dong authorities but he did not have an answer.

According to information from the Institute of Atomic Energy of Vietnam, the institute wants to build the nuclear science and technology center in Da Lat to attract more scientists. This center has an investment of about $500 million, using Russian technology.
