Heavy rains on the evening of December 3 triggered five landslides and brought down numerous forest trees onto Gia Bac Pass, severely paralyzing National Highway 28. About 20 vehicles were reported trapped in the area, where no phone signal is available.

On the morning of December 4, officials from Son Dien Commune in Lam Dong Province confirmed that torrential rains the previous night had caused five separate landslides, with fallen trees completely blocking the road along Gia Bac Pass. Around 20 vehicles became stranded between the landslide zones, and National Highway 28 was effectively shut down.

Starting late on December 3, multiple landslides were reported along the Gia Bac Pass, accompanied by large trees being uprooted and collapsing across the roadway. The section from kilometer 38 to kilometer 43 was particularly impacted, with a dense mixture of soil, rocks, and trees burying parts of the road and trapping vehicles, rendering further movement impossible.

Overnight, local authorities from Son Dien Commune coordinated with Lam Dong Provincial Police to reach the site and support stranded citizens. However, due to the remote and rugged mountainous terrain, along with a complete lack of mobile phone signal, communication and assessment of the situation proved extremely difficult.

As of early morning, rescue teams confirmed that nearly 20 vehicles remained trapped. However, the total number of people inside the vehicles had yet to be determined.

Authorities have temporarily halted all traffic through Gia Bac Pass to focus on clearing the serious landslide zones and implementing rescue measures for the stranded vehicles.

Previously, from the afternoon of December 3 until early morning December 4, heavy and persistent rainfall caused soil and debris to spill onto National Highway 28 between kilometer 38 and kilometer 51. This led to a total traffic shutdown in both directions, even as this mountain pass experiences heavy traffic flow.
