Lao Party General Secretary Choummaly Sayasone.

VietNamNet Bridge – Lao Party General Secretary and State President Choummaly Sayasone arrives in Ha Noi today, Aug 8, at the invitation of Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and State President Truong Tan Sang.

His entourage includes deputy prime ministers Thongloun Sisoulith and Somsavat Lengsavad as well as the ministers of education and sports, energy and mining, planning and investment, and other senior officials.

Sayasone has been a Politburo member since 1991 and has worked as Minister of National Defence from 1991 to 2001 before being elected as Vice President of Laos. In 2006, he was elected as Party General Secretary and State President, re-elected again this year.
