Laos will learn from Vietnam’s socio-cultural development experience as the country is striving to fulfil the United Nations Millennial Development Goals, said Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly Pany Yathotu.
Hosting a reception for Head of the NA Committee for Social Affairs Truong Thi Mai in Vientiane on August 3, Yathotu spoke highly of recent cooperation between the two legislatures.
She informed the Mai that Laos is preparing to establish local People’s Councils and is keen to learn from Vietnam’s experience in this regard.
Yathotu expressed her hope that the Vietnam’s NA Committee for Social Affairs and Lao NA Committee for Cultural, Social and Legal Affairs would continue working closely together and sharing experiences.
Mai informed her host of the outcomes of the working sessions with the Lao NA Committee for Cultural, Social and Legal Affairs held in the morning of the same day, affirming that the two sides will deepen bilateral links.
Earlier the same day, Mai held a working session with Head of the Lao NA Committee for Cultural, Social and Legal Affairs, Professor Phonethep Phonsena, during which they agreed to dig deeper into the specific cooperative contents of personnel training.
During its stay from August 2-8, the Vietnamese delegation is scheduled to hold working sessions with the Ministry of Health and the Pasteur Institute of Laos.
Vietnamese, Lao People’s Courts intensify cooperation
A delegation from the Laos Supreme People’s Court, led by its Deputy Chief Judge Khampha Sengdara, is paying a working visit to Vietnam from August 1-6 to enhance bilateral ties between the two courts.
On August 3, Sengdara was received by permanent Deputy Chief Judge of the Vietnam Supreme People’s Court Bui Ngoc Hoa, who believed that through the visit, the two sides would tighten cooperation and share experiences in establishing and operating an administrative court in the people’s court system.
At the meeting, Hoa briefed his guest on several legal documents which regulate the operations of the administrative court as well as on the Administrative Procedures Code.
The Lao official said that the Vietnamese court’s experience will help Laos build its own code of administrative procedures.
Laos is planning to establish its administrative court, he stated, hoping to receive the Vietnamese court’s assistance in training officials and providing reference documents.
Both wished the two courts would maintain visits and meetings among their high-ranking leaders to share experience in judgment.
Vietnam, Laos bolster inspection cooperation
As part of their visit to Laos from August 2-6, delegates from the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam held talks with their counterparts from the Lao Government Inspection Authority in Vientiane on August 3.
During the talks, the Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Inspector General Tran Duc Luong, and the Lao team, headed by Deputy Inspector General Khamsuc Bouayvong, reviewed their recent cooperation and experience sharing between the two agencies.
They also informed each other of their respective countries’ socio-economic situation, anti-corruption efforts, and inspection management in the first six months of this year.
They affirmed that their links made Vietnam and Laos’ inspection initiatives more practical and effective, contributing considerably to completing political tasks of the two agencies and strengthening the Vietnam-Laos comprehensive cooperation in general.
Along the increasingly intensive cooperation in all fields between the two Parties, States and people of Vietnam and Laos, the government inspection agencies have maintained close ties over the last 20 years.
The two sides signed cooperation agreements in the field in 1998, 2005, 2007 and 2012 while continuing to exchange visits at all levels.
The Vietnamese side also helped train Lao inspection officials while assisting the two countries’ provincial-level inspection agencies in border localities in setting up and enhancing cooperative ties.
