The fire broke out at around 12am, January 5 at the warehouse 56 of the Mobased Factory in Yen Phong Industrial Zone, Bac Ninh province.

The fire occurred during the shift changing time, making hundreds of people panic. The fire spread quickly due to the warehouse contained combustible materials.

The large factory of thousands of square meters was attacked by the flames and collapsed shortly after the fire occurred.

Mr. Nguyen Ta Han, deputy director of Bac Ninh police agency, immediately after receiving information, the police force sent over 10 fire trucks and hundreds of soldiers to the scene.

After several hours, the smoke continued went up highly. Some fire trucks from Hanoi came to help.

By 5.30pm, the fire was under control, no human damage reported.

Mobase is a wholly Korean-own firm, producing mobile phone cases and electronic components for Samsung Electronics Vietnam.

On January 6 the Ministry of Public Security began investigating the fire. According to Bac Ninh provincial authorities, the fire caused no significant damage.

Bac Ninh’s Chair - Mr. Nguyen Nhan Chien, said the factory and the local authorities combined to estimate the losses caused by the fire and the damage is not as much as the figures reported by the media, which were said to be hundreds of billions dong (tens of million US dollars).

"The burnt-down enterprise contained only plastic phone cases and resin. Modern machinery and equipment are in the adjacent workshop, so damage is not huge and the fire does not affect the company's production," Chien said.

He added that the fire does not affect the jobs of nearly 2,000 workers.

From 2010 to 2013, 12 fire and explosion cases occurred in the industrial zones in Bac Ninh province, wounding 34 people and causing damage of over VND400 billion ($20 million).
