Mr. Duong Khac Mai, Vice Head of the National Assembly delegation from Lam Dong province, has filed a report with the provincial police and the Ministry of Public Security after discovering a TikTok account had manipulated his image and circulated false information online.

Speaking to VietNamNet on the afternoon of September 3, Mr. Mai confirmed he had requested an investigation into the person behind the account, who edited footage of him speaking at the National Assembly and paired it with a fabricated caption: “Shocking proposal: Spouses who go out drinking past 8 PM could face heavy fines of up to $1,180.”

“I have never made such a statement,” Mr. Mai said. “The TikTok user took my image and inserted it into a completely fictitious narrative. This is slander and a total fabrication. It seriously harms the credibility and reputation of a National Assembly delegate.”

After the video was uploaded on September 1, it quickly gained traction. Over the following days, the post attracted more than one million views, tens of thousands of interactions, over 8,000 comments, and was shared by more than 3,600 other TikTok accounts.

Authorities in Lam Dong province have launched an official investigation into the incident to verify and address the misinformation.
