VietNamNet Bridge – The Le Dynasty’s canal running through central Nghe An Province has received the title of National Relic.

National pride: A war memorial was built beside the Le Dynasty’s canal.

The 500-km long canal, which was constructed in 983 (during the Early Le Dynasty (980–1009), runs through four provinces Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh.

It is therefore dubbed “The canal of the Le Dynasty”.    

The canal runs through Nghe An Province over a distance of 128km, connecting the province’s Vinh City to Hoang Mai Commune.

This canal’s section witnessed the country’s fierce battles during its two wars against French and American invaders. In particular, during American war, this cannel section served as an efficient maritime way to transport provisions and weapons from the North to the South.

Le Minh Thong, deputy chairman of the Nghe An Province’s People’s Committee said that the recognition was the pride of the local people but also a challenge to the province. The province should have efficient solutions to preserve and develop this historical relic to develop the local tourism economy.
