Compared with the rankings in September, Le Quang Liem’s Elo increased by 10, from 2702 to 2712. Through this promotion, Quang Liem has moved from No. 45 to No. 34 in the world.

Quang Liem was supposed to rank up from last month but due to the World Cup finals took place in early September so his results at this tournament was taken into account for the rankings in October.

On the current rankings, Quang Liem ranked fifth in Asia after the current world champion Viswanathan Anand of India, Wang Hao, Yue Wuang and Dung Liren of China. Compared with the previous rankings, Quang Liem has surpassed two players in Asia - Harikrisnan (India, Elo 2709, 37th) and So Wesley (Philippines, Elo 2706, 41st).

From 15/10 to 19/10, Quang Liem will participate in the Spice Cup 2013 chess tournament held by the Webster University and the Spice Chess Academy in the US, with the bonus for the championship of $4,000. In the two previous SPICE Cup, Quang Liem crowned the championship in 2011 and ranked second in 2012. If he plays well in the 2013 SPICE Cup, Quang Liem will have the opportunity to further improve his ranking.

Meanwhile, female players Nguyen Thi Mai Hung and Vo Thi Kim Phung were relegated on the world junior rankings of October. Specifically, Mai Hung slipped from 43rd to 57th and her Elo reduced from 2222 to 2207. Similarly, Kim Phung dropped 14 places from 47th (Elo 2219) to 61st (Elo 2197).

The cause of the relegation is that both players were not successful in the U20 World Championship in Turkey recently.

The Vietnamese female player with the highest ranking in the world junior ranking is Hoang Thi Nhu Y, ranking 50th and with Elo rating of 2210.

In the women's rankings, the top female player of Vietnam - Pham Le Thao Nguyen – ranks 72nd and with Elo rating of 2389. Meanwhile, the original Vietnamese player Hoang Thanh Trang rises to 19th in the world with Elo rating of 2495.
