VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam’s top chess player Le Quang Liem has won two first victories at the Asian Chess Championships being held in the Philippines.
In the first match on May 18, Liem (seeded No. 1) defeated his young teammate Tran Tuan Minh after 23 moves.
Again in the second match, he beat Batchuluun Tsegmed from Mongolia.
Also, in the single men event, other Vietnamese chess players, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and Dao Thien Hai gained their own first wins.
Son beat Roca Petronio (the Philippines) in the first match and defeated his teammate Nguyen Van Huy in the second.
Hai defeated Liew Chee-Meng-Jimmy (Malaysia).
In the single women event, five Vietnamese players did not suffer any failure.
Pham Le Thao Nguyen had two wins. Nhu Y, Thanh Tu, Bao Tram and Thanh Anh had one win and one draw, each.
On May 20, Liem will face Gomez John Paul (the Philippines) and Son will meet Al-Sayed Mohammed (Qatar).
