Le Trong Hinh of Thanh Hoa set a new record in the men's 400m by clocking a time of 47.47sec, breaking the old record of 47.84sec set by Hoang Van Duy of Ha Noi in 2012.

On August 18, Hinh, who has recovered from injury, won a gold medal for the Thanh Hoa team in the men's 100m with a time of 10.50sec.

In the men's 110m hurdles, Nguyen Huu Tai of Tien Giang set a new record with a time of 14sec, breaking his own record of 14.62sec set last year.

At the end of two days of competition, Ha Noi temporarily took the lead with four gold and four silver medals and one bronze medal. HCM City came second with three gold, one silver and three bronze medals. Thanh Hoa were placed third with three gold medals and a bronze medal.

More than 300 athletes from 45 teams across the country are competing in 24 men's and women's events for 48 sets of medals.
