Lee was previously a technical assistant at the V.League 1’s former champions. He is currently an assistant of the national team head coach Park Hang-seo.
Lee replaced Duong Minh Ninh who decided to leave his seat after a 0-3 loss to Quang Nam in the sixth round match on Sunday. It was their fourth defeat this season, pushing them to No 11 in the ranking.
Minh took his responsibility and appologied supporters. He would continue working as a coach assistant at the club.
Lee, 58, will take his new role on April 28 when Hoang Anh Gia Lai play Thanh Hoa on home turf in Pleiku.
Lee, head coach of the Cambodian U23 team in the past, promised to work best and improve his team’s result soon. His contract valid until the end of the season and the two sides will discuss about his future after that.
