On the 19th of October, Mark Mobius, 79, came to Vietnam to meet important partners. He said that Franklin Templeton Investments had invested in Vietnam since 1994. It is the most important among the emerging markets where they have investments.
Franklin Templeton Investment may invest in food and restaurant chains, services, tourism, logistics ... in the next few years. The fund’s spokesperson said Franklin Templeton Investment expected that Vietnam would thrive strongly after deeply integrating into the world economy.
Speaking to the local media, Mobius said Vietnam’s GDP growth was much better than some countries in the region. However, the growth rate of 5,9% does not show the full potential of Vietnam. In the coming years, this figure will definitely be higher.
The legendary investor also pointed out that Thailand has a population of 60 million and Vietnam with over 90 million but the stock market of Thailand is 10 times bigger than Vietnam’s. This fund has poured $3 billion into the Thai market and only about $200 million in Vietnam.
Mobius, President of Franklin Templeton Investments, with nearly $40 billion, was named on the list of the 10 greatest investors of the 20th century in America. His name can be compared with Warren Buffett, George Soros and Julian Robertson. Mobius is considered the "king" of emerging markets.
