In March 2026, legendary Chinese dancer Yang Liping will perform her iconic masterpiece “The Peacock” at Ho Guom Theater in Hanoi, marking the first time the acclaimed production will be staged in Vietnam.

The performance captures the blossoming of spring in harmony with nature and the human spirit through every graceful movement.

Organized by VietArt Communication JSC, this event represents a cultural milestone as the “Peacock Queen of Chinese dance” spreads her wings in the heart of Hanoi, bringing Eastern dance art closer to Vietnamese audiences.

Born in 1958 in Yunnan, China, Yang Liping is recognized as one of Asia’s foremost dancers. Nicknamed the “Peacock Queen,” her name has become synonymous with the graceful, ethereal movements that have defined her career.

With over 50 years dedicated to dance, Yang has become a symbol of Eastern choreography, performing in more than 50 countries and elevating Chinese dance to a global stage.

A theatrical masterpiece of the East

“The Peacock” is a stage icon - Yang Liping’s original and defining creation. With works such as “The Soul of Peacock,” she has reached artistic heights that left audiences breathless: “She is the peacock, and the peacock is her.”

First staged in 2012, the production was immediately praised and widely received, becoming a cultural phenomenon.

In 2022, a grand new version of “The Peacock” premiered, featuring an entirely reimagined stage design, meticulously crafted for perfection. During its initial tour across 12 cities with 50 performances, every ticket was sold out - affirming the show’s magnetic allure and sparking what the press called a “Peacock wave” throughout China.

From 2023 to 2024, the show continued touring over 40 cities - including Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai - offering audiences an unforgettable visual and emotional experience.

By 2025, “The Peacock” had surpassed 700 global performances, touching hearts with its celebration of light, life, dance, and love.

In the 2022 version, Yang Liping serves as chief choreographer, artistic director, and appears in the Winter segment of the performance. She collaborated with Oscar-winning art director Tim Yip, along with a powerful creative team. The entire production represents the pinnacle of Yang Liping’s artistry - a profound reflection on life by the “goddess of dance.”

After captivating audiences around the world, the 2022 version of “The Peacock” will make its long-awaited debut in Vietnam with four exclusive performances over three days - March 6, 7, and 8, 2026 - at Ho Guom Theater (40 Hang Bai, Cua Nam, Hanoi).

Held in one of the capital’s most elegant and modern venues, the production will feature hundreds of top Chinese dancers, hundreds of handmade traditional costumes, and world-class stage, sound, and lighting design.

The show consists of four chapters - Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter - portraying a narrative of personal growth, human nature, life, and love, expressing the harmony between humanity and the natural world.

Through its poetic theatrical form, the production invites audiences on a journey of spiritual and emotional discovery, examining the essence of human nature and existence while offering a deeply humanistic and artistic reflection.
