In Ha Tinh, Dau Xuan Vuong, a resident of Xuan Giang Commune in Nghi Xuan District, left home early in the morning to catch birds in a local field.

After the thunder accompanied by rain abated, his family rushed to find him lying dead in the field due to burn injuries caused by lightning.

Le Hong Luu, the commune chairman, said local authorities have warned locals of the threat of lightning while working in the open field, but not many consider it could be fatal.

In Nghe An, lightning at the same moment as Ha Tinh, killed Nguyen Huu Dinh and his four-year-old daughter while they were asleep in their home in Thanh Chuong District’s Thanh Xuan Commune.

Nguyen Khanh Thanh, the commune chairman, said Dinh’s family was poor and the five members live in a cottage-like simple house located in a remote area near the local forest.

Thanh added that the Dinh’s older daughter escaped being struck by lightning as she was scared of thunder and moved to her mom’s bed before the strike occurred.

The commune has donated some funds and is assisting Dinh’s family following the loss.
