HÀ NỘI — All Vietnamese athletes were out of the Badminton Asian Championship after the last representative Nguyễn Thùy Linh lost on April 27.
Linh, world No. 35, could surprise against No. 5 He Bingjiao of China. She was defeated 21-16, 21-17 in the women's singles in 39 minutes at the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall in Dubai, the UAE.
It was the fifth time that Linh met her powerful rival and she suffered the same result. Last year, Linh was ousted from the first round.
Việt Nam sent eight athletes to the tournament but, apart from Linh, all were eliminated in first round matches.
They will return home and continue practising for the 32nd SEA Games next month in Cambodia. VNS
