The musician announced details of the concert at a press conference held in HCM City. He will also release his latest song Những Hạt Mưa (Rain Drops) which he composed last year.

"I wrote the song Rain Drops not just about rain, it also is my emotion." Thu said

The song will be performed by Hong Nhung accompanied by string instruments and piano. The composer discovered singer Hong Nhung at age 16 and she is always the top choice to sing Thu’s new work.

Other artists scheduled to perform are Thanh Lam, My Linh, Bang Kieu, Tung Duong and amateur Tran Nguyen Minh Duc. Duc studied architecture in Italy and he returned to Vietnam two years ago. He will sing two songs with in a contemporary style.

The concert will have two parts – Những Bài Hát Ru Của Tôi (My Lullabies) and Đánh Thức Tầm Xuân (Awakening in Spring). Lullabies are a favourite theme of the composer. Six lullabies songs will be performed during the first part of the concert.

"Lullabies show the longing for love and the best things in life," said the musician. "I have composed about 20 lullabies and I want to introduce one of these – Ru Thức (Awakening) – at the concert"

The musician said that he is not planning to have a host at the concert, instead saying he just wants the singers to perform.

Thu is one of the musicians from the Song Hong (Red) River Gang of Four who were popular pop stars in the 1980-90s and have made the greatest contribution to Vietnam’s music scene.

Thụ, who began his music career in 1982, has composed more than 100 pop and contemporary folk songs. Many of his songs were top hits and have been performed by famous artists.

The 76-year-old musician received the Phan Chau Trinh Award last year to recognise his contributions to Vietnamese culture and music. He has worked as a music lecturer at several universities and colleges in Hanoi and HCM City.

The live concert is part of a series initiated by the musician entitled Cửa Sổ Âm Nhạc (Music Window) beginning in 2012.
