Bamboo Airways already started selling tickets for Tet holiday from five to six months ago and Vietnam Airlines started selling Tet air tickets in mid-September.
According to the plan, Bamboo Airways will provide nearly a million seats for their domestic flights during the peak of the travelling season from January 9 to February 8, 2020, an increase of 700,000 seats compared to the previous Tet holiday. In late December, Bamboo Airways will receive its first Boeing 787-9 which as more seats than the A321neo or A320neo.
Vietnam Airlines have also provided 230,000 more seats this holiday for routes with high demands like the Hanoi to and from HCM City-Phu Quoc-Vinh routes and HCM City to and from Danang-Thanh Hoa-Vinh-Hue. Jetstar Pacific will increase 40,000 more seats or 220 domestic flights. In total, Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific and VASCO will provide nearly 2.23 million seats for domestic flights during Tet holiday.
Vietjet Air is planning to increase more domestic flights.
Despite the increasing number of seats, the tickets are being sold out quickly and the prices are soaring.
The lowest price for HCM City-Hanoi flights of Vietnam Airlines on January 23 is VND3.5m (USD151) economy class and VND7.5m for business class. Vietjet Air offers VND2.8m for economy class and VND4m for a Skyboss ticket. The price for an economy and business class ticket at Bamboo Airways is VND3.6m and VND6m respectively.
The prices for an Hanoi-HCM City flight is much lower at around VND500,000 because not many people will use this route before Tet so airlines will have empty flights during round trips.
According to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam, it's normal for HCM City-Hanoi flights to be crowded and the Hanoi-HCM City flights empty before Tet. The situation is often reversed after Tet. They have plans to deal with ticket shortages for this time. Dtinews
