VietNamNet Bridge – The information was unveiled on Monday at the Workshop on Cochinchina Governor’s Palace manuscripts, held by Vietnam’s State Records Management and Archives Department and HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

The collection is now in good preservation at the State Archives Center II at 17A Le Duan Boulevard in HCMC’s District 1.

Amounting to 2,435.5 meters of texts, the collection’s main items are invaluable documents, maps and pictures that need preserving to withstand natural ageing. The majority of these documents were written in French and the rest in other languages such as Vietnamese, Chinese, Khmer, Lao, Japanese, and English, among others.

“The manuscripts hold abundant information with high reliability that comprehensively reflect many realms like politics, military, security, diplomacy, economy, culture, education, and public health in Cochinchina during its time as a French colony for almost a century,” said Nguyen Thi Hieu , a member of the State Archives Center.

The collection is considered a scarce resource in Vietnam for its integrity and uniqueness. For that reason, it has attracted the attention of hundreds of international and domestic researchers to use and exploit for academic and research purposes over the past 40 years.
