Readers of ArchDaily have viewed over 3,000 entries and picked the best five finalists for each category for the awards.

Projects of Vo Trong Nghia Architects have been listed in four of the 14 categories of final works for the awards, including Houses, Hospitality, Educational Architecture, and Refurbishment.

In the Houses category, the company’s project named House for Trees in HCMC’s Tan Binh District has been selected. The US$156,000 house covering a floor area of 226 square meters was designed to bring green space back to a bustling and hustling city like HCMC.

Five concrete boxes are used as ‘pots’ for tree planting on their tops. With thick soil layers, these pots also function as basins to help reduce flooding risks in the city, ArchDaily said when describing the project.

The company’s Son La Restaurant project is nominated in the Hospitality category. The restaurant is located on an area of 1,984 square meters in the northern province of Son La and bamboos are used as its main construction materials.

The Farming Kindergarten covering an area of 3,800 square meters in Dong Nai Province has been nominated in the Educational Architecture category. Located next to a big shoe factory and designed for 500 children of the factory’s workers, the green-roof building provides farming lessons and a playground for children.

In the Refurbishment category, the Green Renovation project in Hanoi has been chosen. Covering an area of 387 square meters, the building has been renovated from a 15-year-old house in the center of the capital city. The house covers much greenery and offers a comfortable living environment to both the owner and the neighbors.

The voting for the finalists runs until February 5.
