The winning project on the integration of deep learning into automatic volumetric cardiovascular dissection and reconstruction in simulated 3D space for medical practice in the systems software category was developed by Nguyen Le Quoc Bao and Le Tuan Hy of Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in Ho Chi Minh City.

Their project also won a special award granted by the United States’ Association for Computing Machinery.

They were among 17 Vietnamese students who brought a total of nine projects to the global fair. This comes after they were selected from the 149 entries sent to the National Science and Technology Competition for high school students in the 2023 to 2024 academic year.

Initiated back in 1950, the ISEF is the world's largest global science competition for high school students. Each year the event attracts the participation of roughly 1,500 students from over 70 countries and territories worldwide who come together to showcase their research results.

The competition offers an opportunity for future young scientists to engage in exchanges with their peers and scientists, including Nobel laureates who attend the fair as judges.

The Regeneron ISEF 2024 got underway in the US from May 11 to May 17, with the function drawing 1,353 projects of 1,699 high-school students from 67 countries and territories globally.

Vietnamese students have participated in the contest since 2012, notably winning the third prize in 2023 and the second prize in 2024.
