The sloppy defence of the visitors showed their weaknesses, only able to defend their net until the 15th minute when Gia Lai's midfielder Viet Cuong was down in the penalty box. Evaldo Goncaves easily converted it to the opening goal.

At the 36th minute, Goncaves gave his team a two-goal lead after a perfect solo performance by Allan Wanga from the central area. The Brazilian set up his hattrick 20 minutes before the end with a close-range shot.

McMenemy could not turn his team around despite the fact that Long An had several chances to narrow the score. Their strikers were simply not at their peak yesterday, sending multiple shots out of bounds or into the hands of Gia Lai's goalie Tuan Manh.

Their loss kept them at the penultimate position in the V-League ranking table, while Gia Lai jumped up one step to eighth.

In a match in Ha Noi yesterday, new comer Nguyen Van Quyet of Ha Noi T&T scored twice in a 2-1 match against Ninh Binh. His great performance helped the host team earn their fourth win of the tournament and return to the top four with 12 points after seven matches.

The only goal for the visitors came after many attempts to score. At the 82nd mark, Laumann Michel received a left-wing pass from teammate Rodrigo Mota Farias and tapped it straight into the net.

In Dong Thap yesterday, host Dong Thap defeated Hoa Phat Ha Noi 3-1 to top the V-League ranking with 14 points.

Earlier, former champions SHB Da Nang were tied 1-1 with Khatoco Khanh Hoa despite their home field advantage.

Song Lam Nghe An trounced Thanh Hoa 3-0 and Vicem Hai Phong pocketed a 2-0 win over Navibank Sai Gon.

In the earliest match of the round on Saturday, bottom-placed Ha Noi ACB successfully earned one point from a 3-3 draw with Becamex Binh Duong.
