VietNamNet Bridge – A low-pressure system is forecast to develop into a tropical storm causing strong winds in the Gulf of Tonkin tomorrow, July 16, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecast.
Coastal areas from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau Province might be threatened by winds reaching speeds of up to 49km per hour while northern provinces might be hit by heavy showers during the next two to three days whereas southern and central highland provinces might be pestered with scattered showers during the evenings.
Ha Noi City is expected to undergo showers and temperatures of between 24-30 degrees.
While no casualties have been reported, heavy rains and strong winds have managed to destroy more than 30 houses in the southern province of Ca Mau since last night.
Flash floods killed a 54-year-old man in the Ta Khoa Commune of the Bac Yen District in northern Son La Province on Wednesday, damaging 10 houses and around 8ha of rice fields while washing away a number of livestock and poultry in its wake.
On the same day, the flood damaged an irrigational dam and destroyed two houses in the Yen Chau District.
Yen Chau and Bac Yen district authorities have been offering assistance to households affected by the bad weather, handing out VND6 million (US$300) to each.
