On January 9, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese held a press conference to announce the details of the Homeland Spring 2025 program.
Homeland Spring: A celebration of unity and culture
With the theme "Vietnam – Rising in the new era", the Homeland Spring event will take place from January 18 to January 20, featuring a range of meaningful activities.
President Luong Cuong and his spouse will preside over key events such as a incense-offering ceremony at Kinh Thien Palace and the traditional carp release ritual for Kitchen Gods Day (Tet Ong Cong, Ong Tao).
On the evening of January 19, during an artistic gala with 1,500 attendees, the president will deliver a New Year’s message to overseas Vietnamese and perform the ceremonial drumbeat to inaugurate the spring festival.
Honoring contributions of overseas Vietnamese
The Homeland Spring program is an annual event organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) to welcome Vietnamese expatriates back for the Lunar New Year.
Speaking at the press conference, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized the significance of this event in strengthening bonds between the homeland and its diaspora.
The program includes a series of meaningful activities for distinguished overseas Vietnamese delegations, such as paying respects at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, offering flowers at the Heroic Martyrs’ Monument, and meeting with Party and State leaders.
Deputy Minister Hang noted that the theme for 2025 reflects Vietnam’s aspirations for growth and its determination to rise as a nation in the new era.
“Homeland Spring is not only a cultural and political highlight of the year but also an opportunity to honor the immense contributions of overseas Vietnamese to national development,” she said.
A heartfelt homecoming
Over the years, the Homeland Spring program has welcomed numerous expatriates returning to witness Vietnam’s rapid development.
Deputy Minister Hang shared that the event often marks emotional reunions for those visiting their homeland after many years, showcasing Vietnam’s growth and vitality to its global community.
The event underscores the government’s recognition of the diaspora’s efforts and its encouragement for overseas Vietnamese to remain united, strive for excellence, and contribute to the nation’s progress.
